Time-Saving Tips for Moms and Dads

With Mother’s Day being in May and Father’s Day being in June, we wanted to give parents (and all caregivers!) the gift of time with your children. After all, we know how busy you are, balancing errands, appointments, child care, house care, and often a career on top of it! To help you find more time in your week, our Greenville day care is sharing some real-life, effective ways to save several hours each week!

Order Groceries Online

Greenville day care shares time-saving tipsGoing to the grocery store is a dreaded task – it takes forever and if you have toddlers and preschoolers with you, you know there will probably be at least one meltdown. Instead of trying to carve out time for an extended grocery visit, order your groceries online while sitting in the drop-off line, when you’re on your lunch at work, or during nap time if you’re home. Schedule a pickup for when you know you’ll be out, such as when you’re on your way home from work or picking the kids up from preschool.

Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Wal-Mart, and Target all offer online shopping and will bring your purchases out to your car. While there is a small fee associated with pickup services, you can avoid buying impulse items, so you may even save money!

Feed Your Freezer

We know how hard it is to get a healthy dinner on the table that everyone enjoys, and sometimes it just is easier to hit the drive-thru or go with cereal for dinner. While there’s not a thing wrong with that, if you want to get a hot meal on the table without a lot of fuss, we’re a big fan of freezer meals.

Double a batch of a family favorite, serve one pan and freeze the other so on your busiest nights, you can just slide a pan in the oven and have a delicious meal in about an hour (and with the disposable aluminum pans from the dollar store, clean up is a snap!).

Here are a few of our favorites:

For more ideas and tips, just Google “freezer meals” or “batch cooking.”

Create Outfits Straight from the Laundry

Do you feel like most mornings are a battle of picking out clothes and getting dressed? Instead of putting away pants, shirts, and socks separately, when you put away laundry, make outfits as you go.

Simply put coordinating shirts and pants on one hanger (you can even use hanger clips for socks and underpants!), so in the morning, your child can independently grab an outfit and get dressed with less parental help.

Pro tip: Buy all the same socks in white, black, or gray and never worry about matching them again!

Partner with Another Parent for Ride Shares

If you have children in extra-curricular activities, such as gymnastics or football, you know driving to practice, waiting, and driving home takes a pretty big chunk of time. Instead, if you know (or get to know!) another parent, you can pair up with them, taking turns taking the kids to practice and bringing them home. Either switch out weeks for weekly practices or each parent pick a day for twice-a-week practices.
